It's been eight years since the British brand of online furniture MADE.COM - ironically created by two French and one Chinese, all three by the benches of HEC Paris -, burst the screen with its ranges of accessible furniture. The prolific society is now enjoying a new youth with the collaborative financing platform, TalentLAB, whose goal is to promote and publish those who will make the design of tomorrow.

After four editions of the aptly named ETA Prize -for Emerging Talent Award-, organized by the brand, the founders of MADE.COM came to a positive as well as frustrating observation: the selection and the production of a single winning project was a Cornelian choice; even unexploited potential. To give them the means of their ambitions, the idea of creating a collaborative financing platform, aimed at highlighting the generation of future designers, then sprouted in January 2016.

For this purpose, the furniture publisher launched in September 2017 an extremely free call for applications. The only constraints for the postulants: knowing how to transcribe their idea in drawing, to be in agreement with the graphic universe of the mark and its means of production. In a few months, 700 applications are filed and studied by the designers of the brand. A few months later, 17 of them are prototyped by the MADE teams and then submitted to the online vote of the public, who can bet between 5 and 30 books on the said-object. Projects that have raised the necessary amount (corresponding to the estimated public sale price) by 30 June 2018 will be included in the publisher's offer. If the product does not reach the desired investment, the philanthropist is refunded, otherwise he can freely reuse his bet on the merchant site and benefit in addition to a reduction of 30%.

"This not only gives consumers the opportunity to control what MADE produces, but it also allows them, alongside MADE, to be part of its support for different young talents. " Ruth Wassermann, Artistic Director of MADE

Among the emerging talent panel of this first edition, start-ups from France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Australia, Hong-Kong, China, Switzerland and Germany, have attracted the attention of jurors with extremely varied products such as lighting, a mirror, a coat rack, a table, a dressing table, or a service, mostly made of wood and metal.

The end goal? Highlight by this means 200 creations per year. A way to shorten the production chain by bringing designers and customers together and giving them the opportunity to be the actors.
A way to push a little further the process of democratization of the design developed by the brand, there are eight years.
