Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir : Mold

Land of singer Björk, rock band Sigur Rós or architect Guðjón Samúelsson, Iceland is also known for its design festival, DesignMarch, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The opportunity for the local exiled designer in London, Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir, to present her latest project as refined as it is sassy: Mold.

An evocative name for a collection that is a priori less. Indeed, Mold - understand "molds" in English - seems closer to the abstract work than to the technical tool. And yet! Through this work, the designer wanted to prolong the life of this object that only serves to duplicate in the shadows; to create, but never exposed. Indeed, once he has fulfilled his role, what happens to this mold? Under the impetus of Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir, what was until now simple patterns fallen into disuse turns into sculptures with pastel tones.

Exposed alongside the shapes they are able to produce to infinity, the MDF molds are not only highlighted for their beauty but also to sensitize the spectators to the material world, the craftsmanship and the value of the things that we sometimes neglect. Indeed, technological development or excessive consumption have gradually detached us from manufacturing processes. The aim here was therefore to highlight what is usually hidden from us or to which we no longer bother to think.

This exhibition, the artist sees as a first stage of research. She would like to push her creation even further and be interested in industrial processes, such as cast ceramics for example.

A collection that, beyond its aesthetic pop, pushes to question our consumption patterns.
