Batay-Csorba Architects : Double Duplex

In the heart of the historical center of Toronto (Canada), normally reserved for mansions of the Victorian era, the Batay-Csorba Architects installs two duplex houses 352 square meters. A project both in line and out with its environment.

In order to be consistent with their built environment but also with their time, these duplex residences pay homage to style houses Baye and Gable, widespread in Toronto and characterized by large windows, steep, steep roofs, a front balcony and high ceilings. Architects and reinterpret the decorative elements of these traditional houses, especially on the first two levels of brick-dressed, like the neighboring houses. The two upper levels fall for their break with this scheme, camouflaged behind a wooden slatted double-height that protects the private spaces of sunlight and vis-à-vis the front and the back of the house.

A traditional project, so ... but not too near-symmetrical houses and almost detached.
