In Chile, in the region of Antofagasta in the middle of a desert deemed to be the driest in the world, operates an interpretive center for the tourist interested in this unique territory. The architecture offered in this project was designed in direct response to the landscape: its many slopes, its monochrome textured surface reliefs refer to neighbors and surrounding hues.

The architects Emilio López Marín and Juan Carlos were invited to design a building with an introductory reading grid lovers or curious desert. The building was to evoke the natural features, cultural and energy of this fascinating territory. Massing reflects the mountain slopes sculpting the horizon at a distance of building the illusion works. The oxidized metal selected to build his skin made him refer to soil hue of the region: ocher, red sand, and red.

In the plan, six volumes interconnected around a garden planted. It sheltered from the wind also has more shade. Much like an oasis, it demonstrates how ecosystems "Alternative" can thrive in hostile environments. A local flora has been installed there.

"The Project aims to extend the boundaries and expand the modern vision of the interplay entre architecture and landscape, Where the main characters are two Elements in a relationship of opposites." Emilio Marin + Juan Carlos López

Two volumes are completely opaque and contain spaces for exhibitions and events. While others are lined with glass surfaces providing a visual connection and a direct alignment with the desert: a projection of the viewer towards the landscape.

The facades and roofs are covered with Corten steel. The material gives the building a uniform aesthetic that accentuates the slopes and angles volumes. A game of shadows and light rhythm also the building.
